Global Citizenship can be one of the harder competencies to reach as it includes learning a second language and connections with cultures that are more often than not, new. Fortunately, I came to the Honors program having already completed parts of the competency. Having lived in Mexico, Venezuela, and Kazakhstan while growing up in addition to the United States, I already had a starting idea of where I fit as a member of a culture (Self 1). I was also semi-fluent in Spanish and from this knowledge came an understanding of how complex relationships can be between people across language barriers and even in interactions where most of a language is shared (Comm 1-4). From my experiences I gained a basic understanding of how the cultures I had grown up in differed and began questioning why they differed (K&U 1-2). See attached for a more in depth reflection.
