When I first arrived at Minnesota State University, Mankato, I had never put much thought into leadership. However, that was one of the first things the Honors program threw at me. Part of the FYEX course was identifying our strengths and weakness as a leader. Using the StrengthFinders test, I discovered my strengths to be Input, Intellection, Connectedness, Strategic, and Belief. Simply put, my leadership strengths lie in strengthening the plans and ideas of others. I am good at looking for the benefits and flaws in an idea and finding a logical way to proceed. I find this to be accurate, I dislike taking the spotlight, and much prefer to take a supporting role where I can improve ideas. My weaknesses are Relationship Building and Creativeness. I am not a strong people person and so lack the skill and experience in bringing together a group of people, and though I am good at improving plans and ideas, I tend to find myself freezing when I need to create my own. This class helped me identify what I find important in leadership and reflected on my strengths and weaknesses (Values 1-2).
